Every type of coverage — explained simply

You do not have to figure this out alone. Here is what each type of coverage does, how it works, and whether it fits your life right now. Book a free call and we will figure out exactly what you need.

🛡️

Life Insurance

If you pass away, your family receives a tax-free lump sum — enough to cover rent or a mortgage, groceries, debts, childcare, and the future you were building together.

Two main types: Term Life covers you for a set number of years (10, 20, or 30) at the most affordable monthly cost. Permanent Life covers you for life and builds cash value over time. You choose the amount based on what your family would need without your income.

You need this if: anyone depends on your income — a spouse, children, aging parents, or a business partner. The younger and healthier you are when you start, the lower your monthly cost.

🏥

Critical Illness Insurance

If you are diagnosed with a serious illness — cancer, a heart attack, a stroke — you receive a tax-free lump sum. Use it however you need: medical bills, time off work, travel for treatment, or keeping the lights on at home.

Coverage activates after you are diagnosed with a listed condition and survive a waiting period (usually 30 days). The money comes to you with no strings attached — not to the hospital or a doctor. You choose the amount when you apply.

You need this if: you could not maintain your household for 3 to 6 months without your income. One in two Canadians will face a serious illness in their lifetime. Group benefits rarely cover the full financial gap it creates.

💼

Disability Insurance

Your income is your most valuable asset. If an injury or illness stops you from working, disability insurance replaces a portion of your paycheque — typically 60 to 85% of your income — every month until you can return.

Short-term disability covers the first few months. Long-term disability kicks in for extended periods and can pay out until retirement age. Your employer may offer some group coverage, but most plans fall well short of what you actually need to survive financially.

You need this if: you are self-employed, work on contract, or your group plan does not replace enough of your income. One in three Canadians will face a disability lasting 90+ days before they retire.

✈️

Travel Insurance

Your provincial health coverage stops at the border. Travel insurance covers emergency medical costs, hospitalization, medical evacuation, and trip interruption when you are away from home — in Canada or abroad.

Choose single-trip coverage for one journey or a multi-trip annual plan if you travel regularly. Coverage can include emergency medical, trip cancellation, lost baggage, and flight delay. Policies activate the moment you leave your province.

You need this if: you travel outside Canada for any reason — vacation, visiting family, business trips, or snowbird stays. A single hospital visit abroad can cost more than $10,000 a day without coverage.

🏢

Business Protection Insurance

If you run a business, you need protection that goes beyond personal coverage. Business insurance keeps your company running if something happens to the people who built it.

Key Person Insurance pays your business a lump sum if a critical employee — a founder, top salesperson, or essential operator — can no longer work. Buy-Sell Coverage funds a smooth ownership transition if a partner passes away or becomes disabled. Business Overhead Coverage pays your fixed business costs while you recover from a disability.

You need this if: you own a business, are in a partnership, or have employees who are essential to keeping revenue coming in. Your business has a plan for everything — except what happens if you are the one who cannot show up.

🏠

Mortgage Term Protection

If you pass away or become critically ill, this coverage pays off your mortgage so your family keeps the home — without a devastating financial burden on top of their grief.

Unlike bank mortgage insurance (which pays the bank and cancels when you change lenders), personal mortgage protection pays your family directly. They decide how to use the funds. Coverage decreases with your mortgage balance, keeping premiums affordable throughout the term.

You need this if: you have a mortgage and people who depend on you. Your home is likely your largest asset. Protecting it is a decision you can only make while you are healthy enough to qualify.

🔑

Homeowners Insurance

Protects your home and everything inside it against fire, water damage, theft, wind, and other unexpected events. If something goes wrong, your insurer pays to repair or replace what was lost.

Coverage includes the physical structure of your home, your personal property inside it, and liability protection if someone is injured on your property. You can add riders for high-value items, sewer backup, and more based on your needs.

You need this if: you own a home. It is often required by mortgage lenders and is one of the most important financial protections a homeowner can have. Rebuilding a home without coverage can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

🏙️

Condo Insurance

Your condo corporation has insurance for the building — but it does not cover what is inside your unit. Condo insurance covers your furniture, appliances, electronics, wardrobe, and your personal liability.

If your unit is damaged by fire, water, or theft, your insurer replaces your belongings and covers temporary accommodation while repairs are made. Liability coverage also protects you if water or damage from your unit affects a neighbour's property — which can be very expensive without coverage.

You need this if: you own a condo. Your building's policy will not replace your TV, your wardrobe, or your appliances. Condo insurance is typically very affordable and often overlooked by first-time buyers.

🛋️

Renters / Tenant Insurance

If you rent, your landlord's insurance covers the building — not your belongings. Tenant insurance protects your furniture, electronics, clothing, and everything you own in your unit.

If there is a fire, break-in, or water damage, your insurer replaces your belongings and covers temporary accommodation while your unit is repaired. Liability coverage protects you if you accidentally damage the property or if a guest is injured in your home. Most policies start at under $20 a month.

You need this if: you rent anywhere in Canada. One kitchen fire or break-in could cost you everything you own. Tenant insurance is one of the most affordable protections available — and one of the most commonly skipped.

🕊️

Final Expense Insurance

Covers funeral and burial costs so your family is not left scrambling for money during one of the hardest moments of their lives. This is a simple, affordable way to give the people you love a gift of time and peace.

A smaller whole life policy — typically $5,000 to $25,000 — with no medical exam required. Premiums never increase, no matter your age or health. Coverage never expires. The benefit goes directly to your family, quickly and without complications.

You need this if: you want to spare your family the financial burden and logistics of a funeral. The average Canadian funeral costs between $10,000 and $20,000. This coverage ensures your family's first week of grief is not also a financial emergency.

Before you book

Is this consultation really free?

Yes, completely. The 20-minute call is at no cost and no commitment. You can ask any question and leave with clarity, whether you decide to work with me or not.

Do I need to know which type of coverage I need before we talk?

Not at all. That is what the call is for. I will ask you a few simple questions about your life, your income, and your family, and we will figure out together which types of coverage make sense for your situation right now.

I already have coverage through my employer. Do I still need this?

Possibly. Group benefits typically cover 1 to 2 times your salary, are not portable, and end when you leave your job. Most financial planners recommend 10 to 12 times your income in coverage for a family with dependents. We will review your existing coverage together and identify any gaps.

What provinces do you serve?

I am licensed to serve clients across Canada. All consultations are virtual so I can meet with you wherever you are in the country, on your schedule.

Can you help with home, condo, or tenant insurance too?

Yes. In addition to life, disability, critical illness, and travel coverage, I can help you find the right property protection — whether you own a home, a condo, or rent. One conversation can cover everything.

What happens after the consultation?

If there is a good fit, I will put together a simple set of options tailored to your situation and budget. There is never any pressure. You decide if, when, and whether to move forward.
